I used to trust the news media to tell me the truth.
A forgotten line in a song from a concept album released over 20 years ago. I never really thought much about it, until a few months ago, when I learned how much our news media lies to us, and misrepresents facts to skew opinion.
Truth based news and information is critical to a functioning society. Beginning in early 2012, I will launch a project aimed at broadcasting the news from a social perspective. The Independent Journal is an experiment of sorts that combines personally curated news stories that impact your daily life.
Information will be a combination of tweets, posts, blogs, articles and real life stories from people in the trenches. There will be facts. There will be opinion and even some sarcasm to lighten the mood. Most importantly, this will be journalism at it's core. A news source by the people, for the people.
There will be no advertising on the site. The Independent Journal will live on your donations alone. You will fund this, so you can trust that our coverage will not contain corporate bias - ever!
As violations to human and constitutional rights (not to mention dignity) continue, it's up to us - YOU as well as me - to report on these injustices. Blog the hell out of what you see and experience.
As I mentioned before, this is an experiment. This paper is the hub for Operation:Independence. If you want your story told here, just send it to me. If you want to operate a blog on our news network (or add your existing one), contact me directly.
We are launching soon, and I hope you will be with us.
